When anesthesia goes too far

I recently had a patient, a particularly sassy terrier, who woke up from surgery convinced she was still in the operating room. She started barking at the nurses, trying to herd them like she was the boss — it got me thinking about the wild things our patients do post-op. Anyone else have funny anesthesia stories to share?

I’ve seen some pups wake up thinking they’re in a dog park, sprinting around the recovery room like crazy! I make sure to keep them calm for at least 30 minutes post-op — helps the wild ones settle down quicker. Got any tips for wrangling the spun-up ones?

That’s hilarious! I once had a golden retriever wake up thinking she was still at the beach, and she started digging at the blankets like they were sand. @jordan_park93, ever seen a pooch try to bring the beach home? It’s always a surprise how their minds work post-anesthesia.

I once had a bulldog come out of anesthesia thinking she was still snoring and kept rolling over, trying to find a comfy spot that didn’t exist! It’s hilarious but also makes me wonder if they really remember any of it. @jameson_w94, do you think some breeds are more dramatic than others post-op?
