Understanding Canine Aggression: A Behavioral Approach

I’ve been seeing a noticeable uptick in aggressive behaviors in dogs during my practice, and I think it’s pivotal that we address these issues through education and behavior modification techniques. One tool I’ve found particularly helpful is the use of desensitization and counter-conditioning protocols tailored to the individual dog. I’m curious to hear how others are managing similar cases and what strategies you’ve found effective.

I’ve found that using a muzzle during the initial assessment can really help reduce stress for both the dog and us as we work on desensitization… It allows us to focus on positive interactions without escalations. Have you tried that approach?

Totally agree on desensitization — i’ve had good luck with treats and positive reinforcement during assessments. Have you used any specific triggers that work well?
