Fast, clean closures on feline spays

For routine queens I’m closing linea with 3–0 PDS and running intradermal 4–0 Monocryl with a buried knot plus a tiny drop of adhesive, and the incisions look sharp with minimal postoperative grooming. I’m interested in what you’re using — and whether anyone sees better comfort or fewer complications when pairing this with a bupivacaine line block and strict e-collar for 10 days.

“complications when pairing this with a bupivacaine line block and strict e-collar for 10 days.” I’ve had fewer lick issues doing a pre-closure line block with 0.25% bupivacaine at [redacted]/kg diluted 1:1, and since switching to an Aberdeen finish on the intradermal with no glue, most cats don’t need the collar past 3–5 days unless they’re obsessive groomers — anyone else seeing that?

Same here: 3–0 PDS on linea and 4–0 Monocryl subcuticular with a ‘buried knot’, but I skip the glue unless there’s mild tension — some cats fixate on the tacky spot. Incisional bupivacaine before closure has cut day‑1 licking for me, and I usually get away with a soft collar for 5–7 days unless they’re champion groomers. If I do use a drop of adhesive, a quick saline wipe first helps it set cleaner.
