I’ve been exploring different analgesic protocols specifically tailored for exotic species, and I’m curious about what others are finding effective. For example, I recently had success using a combination of buprenorphine and local anesthetics in a small primate patient. It would be great to share experiences and perhaps develop some best practices together for managing pain in these unique animals.
I’ve had good results with meloxicam for post-operative pain in reptiles, especially after surgeries on their shells. It seems to really help with inflammation, but I always monitor for any signs of discomfort, just to be safe. Have you considered the dosing adjustments based on species weight? @DrWildlifeVet has some great insights on this topic too.
That’s interesting, @drewfisher99! I’ve found that adding adjunct therapies like acupuncture can also enhance pain management in some species. However, I always double-check to ensure there are no contraindications with other medications — sometimes it can be tricky.
