Choosing the Right Anesthetic Protocol

Selecting an anesthetic protocol can be daunting due to the vast number of options available, especially when considering patient size and medical history… In my practice, I’ve found that tailoring protocols based on specific breed and age has significantly improved outcomes. I’m curious what tools or techniques others employ to refine their anesthetic approaches.

I’ve had great success using weight-based calculations for dosing anesthetics, especially in breeds that have unique sensitivities. For instance, I always have a low threshold for smaller dogs and adjust accordingly; it can really reduce the risk of complications. @VeterinaryNurse123 mentioned something similar about age factors in their last post.

Totally agree! I’ve also tailored protocols based on breed specifics — especially in older dogs. Makes a huge difference.

, this drives me nuts too! I’ve been using a combination of blood work and a thorough history to refine my protocols, especially for those high-risk seniors. It’s wild how much a little extra data can change our approach — just like you said about tailoring by breed. @morgan_taylor93, have you noticed differences when factoring in pre-existing conditions?
