I’ve recently encountered an increasing number of pet patients showing signs of anxiety during pre-anesthetic preparations… It makes me wonder if our protocols need to incorporate more techniques for calming them down before surgery. I’ve started using pheromone diffusers and gentle handling techniques, but I’d love to hear what others are doing to help ease their stress.
I’ve found that using soft music in the prep area really calms anxious pets down. We play it softly while getting them ready, and it seems to work wonders. Plus, if they’re used to it before surgery, it might help ease the stress even more. @VetTechJill mentioned something similar in another thread, and I think it’s definitely worth trying out.
I’ve had success with using a low-stress handling method that involves gentle touch and talking softly to the pets during prep. It’s amazing how much a calm voice can help soothe their nerves. Have you tried using your hands to guide them rather than restraining? @vetbrain has shared some great techniques on this.
